In Leon, as in the temple, the wine is sacred. The Abbot of Compludo threatened with excommunication those vintners who produced the wine diluted with water. With wine fines the Council were paid and its output fed numerous monasteries along the Camino de Santiago, where the monks were advised to drink wine rather than water. Were these people, especially the Benedictines, who brought grapevines and arts from neighboring France.
El Capricho inherited this legacy and provides a selection of the best wines from the province of Leon, arranged in two denominations of origin: "Tierra de León" and "Bierzo".
El Bierzo produces wines of intense color with purple hues, especially the variety Mencia, related to the Cabernet. These wines increase taste with age, while the wines "Tierra de León" come from a variety unique to the region, Prieto Picudo; young wines, with carbonic acid gas and sparkling drink.
The winery "El Capricho", also treasured powerful "Chateaux" French, a broad representation of national names and some joyful surprise that José reserve to the most devout.
